Glaslyn Osprey Project
Glaslyn Osprey project is based just outside Porthmadog, on the Glaslyn Estuary, North Wales, around 45 mins from our self-catering cottage here at Cae Garw.
With a public viewing point, and three cameras watching the osprey nest, it gives visitors excellent coverage of this year's nest, with this year's newly hatched chicks.
Two large screens are based at the Visitors' Centre , where you can view the male osprey returing to the nest having caught a trout at the Glaslyn Estuary , while the female chases any intruders off the nest. The male at the moment is bringing back plenty of sticks, moss and clods of earth to build up the nest with. The pair will add to the nest in this way throughout the season, as they did last year.
Other birds seen recently this year is the red kite, and has been seen several times flying around over the estuary. Also seen are a handful of red-breasted mergansers, half a dozen curlews, several lapwings flying around as well as a perigrine.
