Caernarfon

Caernarfon is located at the southern end of the Menai Strait between north Wales and Anglesey, 8 miles south west of Bangor and about an hour from our self-catering cottage here at Cae Garw.

Caernarfon Castle

Located on the Menai Straits on the mouth of the Seiont river Caernarvon castle is one of the most impressive of all of the castles in Welsh History. Built by Edward I'st castle builder James of St George in 1283, this middle age castles consist of 9 towers ( the most impressive being the Eagle Tower) and two great gatehouses - although neither of the two gates were ever finished. The construction materials were ferried in by sea, and today some of the town walls can still be seen. In1969, the castle gained worldwide fame as the setting for the Investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales, it also houses the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, Wales's oldest regiment.

Galeri in Caernarfon is a modern and impressive venue recently built – which houses a modern cinema and theatre showing many unique films and a many acclaimed theatre productions. Acoustically suited for live music concerts, it seats around 400. It also has an art gallery featuring exhibitions by local and national artists, as well as a café bar overlooking the Menai Straits. The Fun Centre is located in Caernarfon town Centre and is North Wales biggest indoor adventure play centre for children! With a giant drop slide, ball pools, tubes, bridges, maze, climbing walls, net and ropes - kids can play happily – while adults can relax in the fully licensed restaurant. Caernarfon Airworld is situated to the south of Caernarfon The airfield has a fantastic range of attractions for all types of visitors including pleasure flights around Caernarvon, Snowdon and the Lleyn Peninsula .The Aviation Museum at Caernarfon Airport has a vast collection of aircrafts from the Hunter, Seahawk, Javelin and Vampire to the magnificent Westland Whirlwind helicopter .
