Porth Ceiriad

Porth Ceiriad is located near the southern tip of the Lleyn Peninsula, between Abersoch and Hell's Mouth Bay, not far off Cilan headland and about 20 mins from our self-catering cottage here at Cae Garw .

Owned by the National Trust , it is a spectacular beach surrounded by high cliffs - with views out across Cardigan Bay to the mountains of Snowdonia, and offers an escape from the crowds even in the busiest school holiday periods.

Porth Ceiriad beach is accessible by a half a mile walk along a couple of fields from Nant y Big car park . A steep flight of steps cut into the cliff side will take you down to the secluded beach.

Being one of the most popular surfing beaches of the Lleyn, it has powerful waves - better left to the most experienced of surfers.Potentially dangerous rip tides can occur here , although the islands of St Tudwals offers some shelter.

Hell's Mouth (Porth Neigwl ) offers a better surfing beach for the inexperienced. Abersoch offers many professional surfing tutors for beginners and experts alike.

Good snorkelling areas are to be found on the Eastern end of Porth Ceiriad -it was on this beach that a rare Kemp's ridley turtle was washed up alive not so long ago.

The geology nature of the cliffs is predominantly sandstone, forming some facinating rock faces which are home to many different speices of birds.

The following fish species can be found here , namely thornback ray, skate, mackerel, flounder, and whiting in winter.

There are no facilities here, although dogs are allowed on the beach.
